その日人類は思い出したXXXヤツらに支配されていた恐怖をXXX鳥籠の中に囚われていた屈辱を On that day, mankind received a grim reminder... Lars Van Dyke Age: Twenty-Five Gender: Male Ethnicity: Dutch Ancestry Rank: 13th Commander of the Military Police Birthday: May 5th Physical Appearance: If anybody sees Lars, the first thing they usually notice about him is his height. Standing at intimidating 6’5 and weighing in at 210lbs; physical conditioning in the Military has given Lars not only solid muscle, but excellent stamina and advanced resilience as well. He has pale, porcelain skin minus the indent of a discolored scar that decorates his forehead (That he will later receive when fighting a Titan teehee) and a sharp, angular face. The Dutchman has short, ash blond hair he styles up or pushes back, with the sides and the back neatly shaved down to the nape of his neck. Lars also striking golden eyes speckled with green that stands out against his pale complexion. He has pale lips that are mostly the same color as the rest of him; often shaped in a flat, straight line or turned downward that always makes the Dutchman appear permanently disapproving. The Dutchman’s eyebrows are shaped rather nicely, although because of the light color it is a bit hard to see them sometimes. Aside from his specific facial features, ever rarely is Lars seen without a blue/purple knitted blue scarf, a gift from his sister. Distinguishing Features: Besides Lars’ height, he also has a very prominent nose. Despite Lars’ face being angular, his nose is a bit wideset and it’s what you would call, a ‘Jew Nose’. Personality: Lars Van Dyke is a complex man. He is knowingly persistent and has a worsening tendency of always being right in any situation, despite circumstances proving otherwise. Because of this, it is difficult to sway his opinion or tell him ‘no’. The Dutchman is very accustomed to getting what he wants, which does make him selfish, spoiled, and overwhelmingly pushy at times. He lacks any form of tact or the slightest hints of a filter, and more often than not, the things he says or does would be considered offensive. The Dutchman is also incredibly indifferent and uncaring in most situations that are deemed morally wrong. So long as a situation does not concern him, unjust or not, he does not give it his interest lest it pertains to his personal life or contains any form of personal gain. Despite his uncaring appeal, Lars still is very ‘high and mighty’ about his opinion, and plays the role of the hypocrite very well. (For Example, even if Lars were to sleep with someone younger than him, or younger looking; he would still be angry with his sister for sleeping with an older man. If sleeping around at all.) Lars also has a slight obsession with situations being in his control and being the dominant one(whether they be intellectual, military, or sexual), and when they are not he is prone to high levels of stress and throwing small temper tantrums. Lars is very cold, calloused and standoffish, which also makes him very unapproachable. He also has a slight xenophobia and general resentment towards others, making him extremely judgmental and hard to get along with. Lars knows how flawed he is, but he does not exactly know how to fix himself. Despite the uneven balance of negative qualities, he does show sincere concern and affection over those he cares about. History: : Lars was born in the year 819 in the Karanase District located behind Wall Rose, where he lived a very simple, privileged lifestyle with his parents. . His mother, Frigga Van Dyke, found work as a baker and his father, Viktor Van Dyke, an engineer for Military Weaponry and Three-Dimensional Manuever Gear. When Lars was six years old, his younger sister Emma Van Dyke was a welcomed addition to the Van Dyke Family. Lars doted on his baby sister and took great care of her. Since she was often mistaken as a little boy, Lars had saved up enough allowance to buy her a bright, colorful red ribbon. (Although at the time it was too big for her head, he figured she would grow into it.) Over the years, Lars took up more of his mothers’ hobbies such as Drawing, Baking, Reading, and Gardening, while also learning Mechanics and Engineering from Viktor. At age twelve, Lars could already disassemble and assemble maneuver gear with ease and read its schematics like clockwork. Incidentally, Viktors’ prowess with maneuver gear proved to be unneeded. Considering there have been no Titan attacks in over 100 years, there was no real demand for the complicated machinery. Although the Van Dyke household was not absolutely poor, their financial stability did slowly begin to dwindle; with only his mothers’ small income and his fathers’ occasional commissions keeping their family afloat. Lars quickly took action however, doing small levels of handiwork in Karanase for the elderly, cleaning kitchens at local bars and bakeries, collecting lumber, deliveries, and other things. Lars continued his studies at the same time of working; coming home after a long day of manual labor, as well as helping in his mothers’ bakery, completely filthy and drenched in dirt, but he would quickly brush his discomfort aside just to make sure his family was stable. When Lars was twenty-one (Year 840) his town had suddenly become flooded with throngs of nameless refugees from Wall Maria. Even with continuous probing, Lars was never given a solid answer as to where all the strangers suddenly came from. That was until Viktor sat Lars down and told him about the Colossal Titan breaching Wall Maria, and the other Titans eating most of the villagers of Shangashina. Before then, Lars had no idea what Titans even looked like and the horrible things they did to humans were things he had only read in history books. Karanase would remain as crowded as it was to compensate for the safety and protection of the Shangashina locals. Despite the situation, Viktor guaranteed their protection, and told them that behind Wall Rose no harm would come to their undeserving family. The change in Karanase was not a gradual one, and the once quiet village had quickly become busy, noisy, and overwhelmingly crowded. Lars’ small classroom of twenty students had soon become fifty-three, and Van Dyke family dinners had gone from three meals a day to only one due to a shortage at the local market. There were new homes built and new neighbors that came and went within them at least twice a month. His classmates were incredibly quiet and frighteningly distant, and villagers from Wall Maria even taking the majority of his part time jobs. Everyone was under an intense level of stress being confined in a single area like rats. Due to the sudden increase in the Karanase population, crime within the walls had also multiplied at a rapid rate as well, and his once peaceful village had suddenly become unsafe. There were constant fights at the market for food, the amount of women selling themselves had increased as well, and the bakery his mother worked at was even robbed overnight for every last bread crumb it had, putting his mother permanently out of work. The Dutchman felt that the new citizens were unwelcome, and unknowingly developed Xenophobia against those attacked by Titans. However, since the fall of Shangashina, demands in Manuever Gear had skyrocketed and Viktor was back to work once more. That year, Lars’ father announced his voluntary draft into the Garrison as an Engineering Specialist. Due to his advanced knowledge of Three-Dimensional Maneuver Gear and astounding physical stamina, at the age of thirty-seven Viktor was a perfect fit to ensure humanity’s protection and assist in stabilizing the disarray of Wall Maria and its neighboring districts. At first Lars wished to join the Garrison with his father, but he knew the responsibility of staying behind and taking care of his Mother and younger sister had befallen him. Due to Viktors’ demanding work schedule, Lars would only catch faint glimpses of his father every other day. The elder Dutchman would tell Lars the same thing each time before he left for weeks at a time: Take care of your mother and your sister. Lars did not mind this responsibility, however, spending much more time with them and becoming overwhelmingly dependent and protective. Come year 841, Cadets of the Garrison visit the Van Dyke household with a grim look on their faces and a service letter. Viktor Van Dyke was pronounced dead amidst a battle behind Wall Maria. Sadly, his body was never recovered, and all anyone knows is that he went missing along with his squad while fighting Aberrants. Since Viktor was the only source of income for their family, and since it was hard for Lars to find work that Marians had not taken yet he resorted to the only option he saw fit; One month after Viktors’ death, Lars had joined the Military. At age twenty-two was when Lars had begun his training. Slowly but surely, his hatred and fear of the Titans, as well as the citizens from Wall Maria had only intensified; and he used that animosity as the driving force behind his decisions. During this time was when Lars had met Ludwig Beilschmidt, his roommate of similar descent. They had both hit it off well despite a few discrepancies (And by discrepancies that means Lars did not like him very much, but grew accustomed to his presence since they practically lived together.) and trained together every day to stay in shape. Lars excelled in maneuver gear training, rifle practice, and his exams on Titan anatomy with ease, quickly earning the attention of his superiors. His only weakness was that he did not work very well with others, and while he would succeed in killing the fake wooden Titan in the forest, it was obvious he would not stop for his fellow comrades so long as the mission is complete. One day, a few members of each Legion showed up at the Training Camp to scope out the Trainees, regain feedback of the graduates and get an estimate on how many cadets wanted to join their legions. A member of the Scouting Legion had approached Lars, and the Dutchman was slightly put off by the idea of jumping right into the fire without a plan of action. He saw the Scouting Legion more as attack dogs than heroes. The Garrison was the Dutchman’s main goal, and yet he was approached by everyone but. When approached by a member of the Military Police, however, he told him the obvious perks of living behind Sina, where they lived without fear of the Titans and their sole mission was protecting the King. What stood out to the ash blond the most was the guaranteed protection. Middle of 842, Now 23, Lars had finally finished his one and a half years of training and graduated second in his class behind Ludwig Beilschmidt in the 102nd Infantry. When it came time to make his decision what Legion he was joining, Lars was ready and willing to set aside his hatred for Titans to ensure the safety of his family. With that, he vowed his loyalty to the Military Police (as an Engineer, just like his father.) That same year, Lars had moved his mother and sister into a beautiful house in the Stohess District behind Wall Sina. While there, he had been introduced to the vast delicacies Stohess had to offer; such as meat, chocolate, sex, and hard liquor. Like Viktor, Lars being home became a rarity, and he went from seeing them every day to seeing them when he had time off. During his time as a cadet, he experienced firsthand how corrupt everything is in the Military Police. Lavished parties, selling Military Weapons to the Black Market, gambling, tax fraud; prostitution, exploitation, and other scandals do not even begin to uncover the seemingly endless layers of degradation. Lars was morally disgusted with the abhorrent state of the MP; and after being given a Captains’ position, he vowed to return it back to its original morals where helping the people and protecting the king was the main goal. He attempted to straighten it out his smaller portion of the group, waking up day in and day out at 5AM, holding private practices and classes, exceeding literary training and physical training after routine hours, surprise exams, but nothing seemed to work or straighten out the other members. Despite the failure in fixing it, Lars’ determination did not go unnoticed by his superiors, and was ironically offered the prestigious title of Corporal after only seven months of being there. He took the position with great honor, and was even entitled his own squad; with the purest intentions of straightening out the legion. By the end of 842, several Captains and Corporals of the Military Police were invited on a special leave at the Utopia district where the King resides. The discussions mainly consisted of tax and land distribution, food shortages, scheduled openings of the gates, and relevant division information. Lars listened carefully at all the respective opinions and views of his fellow Corporals, and watched with revulsion as they came to an understanding that there was nothing wrong with the current state of the Military Police. He realized then and there that nothing was going to change in this legion. Of course Lars could resign if he saw fit and join Ludwig in the Garrison, but at the expense of putting his family in danger, hr preferred to stow away his opinions until they became nothing but distant ideals. Lars chose the latter. The entire time he was in Utopia, Lars had only met the King once, and he was everything he envisioned him to be. A portly, naïve man that was utterly spoiled down to his every whim, and a sickening god complex that could bring Maria, Rose, and Sina to their knees. After one year Lars definitely grew weary of never seeing his younger sister or his mother, and upon his return he announces that he is going to move them to the Military Police Headquarters. ‘The Castle is incredibly spacious, and it has a lot of spare rooms. It’s where I work mostly, and I would see you more often. You’ll like it, I promise.’ Lars was very much aware how selfish his decision was, but he wanted what was best for the both of them. He set Emma up with private tutors in horseback riding, etiquette, French, Dutch, music lessons, and medicinal practice so she could be something normal like a teacher or a nurse. The last thing he would want for her is to have anything to do with the Military. (Lars knows the MP is awful, but the Garrison was clean-up duty in his opinion, and the Scouting Legion… let’s not discuss that.) At the Beginning of 845, word travels back to Sina about the Colossal Titan returning once more and breaching Wall Rose. Titans quickly flooded Karanase and rampage the neighboring districts; savagely devouring citizens and soldiers left and right. It does not take long for the Military Police to receive the news, and yet no one prepares for a battle that is never going to come to them. The Dutchman realizes that at this point, the Titans can only get closer. After three years of being in the Military Police, Lars relinquishes any morality he had left in him. He now turns a blind eye to his colleagues using Opium, or Captains gambling away tax payer money. He knows what the Military Police is capable of; yet the overwhelming guilt that made him sick to his stomach gradually diminished every day he woke up and put on his uniform. So long as his mother and sister get to sleep in a bed with a beautiful canopy each night, eat normally everyday and stay completely safe without any threat of the Titans, The Commander is ready and willing to pledge his undying loyalty to the Military Police without a second thought. Likes: Windmills – It’s a very simple device, yet relaxing. Rabbits – They are his favorite animal, and incidentally, the only ones that like him. Tobacco – Although it’s a delicacy and very hard to come by, he enjoys having a cigarette or smoking his pipe on occasion. It calms his nerves. Drawing – It’s a soothing hobby he picked up from his mother. Sweets – Another delicacy that he enjoys as often as he can. Money – It’s something Lars is very much used to having, and can’t imagine living without. Beer – Although it’s a commoners’ drink, he will only drink it in the privacy of his own bedroom. Flowers - Gardening may be an unmanly hobby, but it is a relaxing one. His scarf- It was a gift from his sister. Cold weather – Lars absolutely loathes the heat because he burns up like lobster. Sex - Let's face it. Lars is a man and he has his needs. Business Dislikes: Being Told What to Do – Lars does not take well to being bossed around. He definitely likes being in charge. Being Rejected – It shakes his already dwindling confidence. Disobedience - Because Lars always believes he is right, and/or doing the right thing, if you go against is rules or against what he says he automatically goes on the defensive. Any form of rebellion against his opinion only serves to make him angry. Corruption – Lars knows he is a hypocrite by turning a blind eye to the corruption around him, but it does not mean he agrees with it. Being Called a Hypocrite – Lars already knows this about himself. He does not need a reminder. Being judged - Although Lars knows he is judged day in and day out. Whether it be for his drinking, or his smoking, his sex life, or his military life, he does not like it. He never intervenes in others' affairs, so why should they care when it comes to his? Not being in Command - Lars has quite the need to be the Dominant one. Rambunctious people - Lars likes his quiet times, and his solitude. Respect that. Strengths: Height and Build – Self explanatory. Strategic – When in doubt, Lars is actually an excellent fighter and knows how to plan for battle. Resilience – Lars will keep fighting even when the odds are not in his favor. If and only if he is fighting for some he cares about. Stamina/High Pain Tolerance – Lars can take a beating. Physical conditioning has made him accustomed to a lot of pain. Immorality * – To others, Lars may seem like a weak man with no standards. But he is willing to do just about anything for his family. Although he believes it to be wrong, he will put his personal morals aside to ensure their safety. Taking charge - Lars never passes up the opportunity to be in charge. Weaknesses: The Dutch are always right – Because Lars dislikes being directed or told what to do; he does not take advice very well. That being said, if he thinks he is right in any the situation, he will continue to go his own way despite advice to do so otherwise. Even when he is wrong, he refuses to believe so. Stress – Under any form of extreme guilt high pressure situations, Lars tends to not think straight and make incredibly rash decisions. A “pretty” face – Lars allows himself to be very distracted from his original work or goal if he catches someone of his fancy. Distrust – Lars does not put faith in anybody besides his family, even in his own squad. Pessemistic - Lars fails to see the good in almost all people and all situations. Xenophobia – Lars’ resentment toward others makes him extremely hesitant to work with others. He does not think things through other peoples’ perspective, which in turn makes him close-minded. Fears: Losing his rank – He worked incredibly hard to obtain his rank, and has to work even harder to keep it that way. Moving out of Sina – Lars moved there with the pure intention of keeping his family safe, and he does not intend to change. Lars fears his mother or his sister ever finding out how corrupt his legion is. He fear they may view him differently. Titans reaching Sina - i mean cmon Being considered a "bad" person - This is a small, childish fear for Lars. If his baby sister ever saw him in another light besides a big brother she aspires and looks up to, he is not exactly sure what he might do. Quirks: Lars only eats orange candies. He is actually a neat-freak, and the kind of guy to have a dining room table that no one can ever eat at. He has a hard time saying ‘No’, it always comes out as ‘Ne’. Lars blushes all the way down to his chest. Does that count. Even though Lars eats meat, he would never eat a rabbit, or pork. Lars is open minded *sexually* but he has a preference toward younger looking men/women. That being said, it's very to easy to mistake his preference for pedophilia. Ever rarely does Lars laughs. His sense of humor would be considered kind of cynical, if he had any. Skillset: Physical Strength: (8.5/10) Intelligence: (6/10) Leadership: (7/10) Teamwork: (3/10) Confidence: (3/10) Agility: (2/10) Roleplay Sample: On a quiet night behind Wall Sina, Lars idly watches with boredom as a small sack filled to its brim with copper coins is handed over to his excited Captain by a shady merchant. “What do you think, Corporal, should I count the whole thing?” His Captain asks with joy in his voice, eyes bright with self gratification. Lars realizes he is barely paying attention to the situation, and he merely turns his head toward the glistening water canal, the dim moonlight reflecting off of the water like a painting. He sees why it’s Sinas’ most attractive tourist spots. The ash blond only shrugs his shoulders, merely surveying the transaction. “Oh, I assure you there is absolutely no need. It’s four-hundred and fifty, I promise.” The merchant reassures the Captain with crooked smile that deems otherwise. Lars only briefly wonders what the merchant is going to do with barrels of ammunition and firearms, but he realizes it really does not concern him, pushing the thought to the back of his mind. “C’mon, help me get this shit onto the boat.” his colleague chimes in toward his Captain. Lars steadies the gun on his back with ease, and as he reaches into his pocket to pull out a cigarette, before he stops after hearing someone yelling in the distance. “What are you guys doing!?” Lars lifts his head, and he sees someone else in a Military Police uniform storming toward the group. The other males’ eyebrows are knitted in fury and he appears as if he is about to explode with anger, shoulders shaking and hands in tight fists. He finally reaches the Corporal and his two Captains, standing only a few feet away. “Peoples’ taxes go to make weapons so we can fight. So we can help them. Not so they can go to thugs like …them!” He makes a general hand gesture toward the merchant sailing down the canal, now long gone. Lars raises a small eyebrow at the younger man, arms lazily crossed against his chest. “Don’t you have any shame? This isn’t what the Military Police stands for!” Before Lars can even chime in, his Captain speaks up with a small grin. “Relax, Cadet. It’s just business. Take this and buy yourself a woman.” He walks up to the other male, placing a few copper coins in his jacket pocket. Lars can see the mess that is about to unfold once the nameless Cadet reaches into his breast pocket as if the copper coins were venom burning his skin, and throws them right back at the Captain. “Take your filthy money, you pigs! I don’t fucking want it.” The second the younger man finishes his sentence, the end of the Captain’s rifle immediately crashes into the gut of the younger cadet at full force. Lars barely winces at the display of violence, only watching the other male collapses to his knees and clutch his stomach. “Of all the unappreciative…Keep your mouth shut, you fucking brat. Respect your superiors.” His Captain immediately defends, talking down to the other male and allowing the end of his gun to collide onto the younger cadet’s back. “This isn’t fair… to the people…” The other male struggles to speak, clearly in physical pain and in a position they all know he does not have the upper hand… and yet he continues to speak his opinion even if it grants him another beating. The ash blond remembers he used to think like that once, didn’t he? Perhaps a long time ago, but he is not as childishly idealistic anymore. Now, golden eyes remain half-lidded and uncaring as the end of the Captains’ boot crashes into the younger Cadet’s cheek, and he is stricken over and over again with the end of a wooden rifle until he is bruised, shaking mess on Sinas’ beautiful cobblestone path. Shit, he got blood on my boots… Look what you did, brat . “Wrap this up, men.” Lars’ voice is flat and orderly, merely turning on the heel of his boot and taking his usual path toward headquarters. Finally allowing himself to light his cigarette with a match, he puts the injured Cadet to the back of his thoughts with ease. “It’s going to be a long day tomorrow.” Additional Information (OOC): Name/Nickname: Sushi !
