その日人類は思い出したXXXヤツらに支配されていた恐怖をXXX鳥籠の中に囚われていた屈辱を On that day, mankind received a grim reminder... Linh Nguyen Age: 21 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Asian (Vietnamese) Rank: Corporal of His Majesty's Military Police Birthday: September 2nd Physical Appearance: Linh has never been one to pay much heed to her appearance but she is fully aware of the fact that she is a rather plain woman. She is average-sized, though on the lanky side and years of living a harsh lifestyle have formed her to be thin and sturdy. Linh is outstandingly healthy; one look at her and you can quickly gather that she is incredibly agile and well maintained. But if she happens to be standing a certain way, you just might mistake her for fragile—her limbs, though strong, show no real muscle. Her entire appearance is based off this kind of deception. Though at first glance she may appear timid and meek she is actually quite cunning and almost ruthless. Distinguishing Features: Linh is incredibly unresponsive, this probably being the most unique thing about her. One could call it an extreme, perpetual poker face—she just happens to call it a defense system. Every little thought, impression and contemplation happens completely internally and, if she can help it, she's not going to give any hints as to what is on her mind. Personality: Contemplative - It does not bother Linh in the slightest to sit and think about things for multiple hours—in fact it's rather common for her to do. She would much rather have a long yet well thought out plan than jump headlong into a situation. This proves to be rather useful in her work, seeing as how she will sit down and weigh out every option and account for every detail. Most of her meticulousness comes from the fact that she's often mulling over the most minuscule of life's occurrences. Strategic - This really goes hand in hand with her thoughtfulness. Linh is very experienced with sitting down and formulating plans and, honestly, considers it to be a talent. She obviously has to rely on her intuition more often than not, and having a brain that is always observing, deducing and deciding also proves to be useful as well. Sabotage is one of her favorite pastimes and her schemes are not something that one would want to be caught up in, seeing as how they can be rather ruthless. Aggressive - Though Linh is indeed a quiet and distant woman she is awfully aggrieved and isn't afraid to break a few knees. Like most people in her position, she gets a rather twisted enjoyment out of it. Linh, however, has found that her temper is a difficult thing to control; her morals seem to vanish—as if she had many to begin with—and she can almost recognize an entirely different side of her taking over. It's rather unhealthy of course but helps as a motivation vehicle when it comes time. Diligent - She is persistent, concise and determined almost to a fault. Her job is the most important—and pretty much the only—thing in her life and she is the exact kind of person who will stop at nothing to reach her goals. She values her job as a great privilege and treats it as such. She doesn't let anyone get in the way and will not hesitate to step on those who try. Inscrutable - Linh has mastered the poker face and this has shown to be one of her most useful attributes in keeping people out of her social life. She does not want people to understand her, or to even try to in the first place, so if she can ward them off from the very beginning then she'll do just that. Paranoid - Though she has gotten good at hiding it, Linh is incredibly nervous and more often than not on edge. She's the kind of person who will sleep with one eye open and will never turn her back to someone suspicious. Reserved - Having been this way since she was a young girl, Linh is not accustomed to making friends nor does she want to. She lives a life of mostly solitude and she enjoys it that way. If she senses someone trying to wiggle their way into her life, she shuts down and turns away. It's almost second nature to her now, and she's become rather unfriendly in the process. Insecure - Do not mistake that Linh is not confident in her actions, choices or motives. She is however unconfident in her own appearance and stature. Therefore, Linh tries her best to present herself as the hardened, no nonsense woman she is. She considers herself to be horribly plain and generally unattractive and her physical scars do not help sway her opinion of herself. Linh is not one to be taken as shallow, for she isn't, but every woman has her own worried mindset about how she appears. Though Linh is usually left with a bitter taste when she faces the mirror each morning, she has no desire to improve herself in anyway. She has neither the time nor concern for change. Witty - Though she rarely gets the chance to use this skill, Linh is very good at keeping up in witty banter. Its one part using her own mind quickly and two parts playing mind games with the other party that causes her to enjoy it so greatly. Her sense of humor, often thought to be nonexistent, is very wry. Apprehensive - Linh is always on her toes, always fearful of the worst and never considering the job to be over. Go ahead and label her pessimistic but Linh is a firm believer that if anything can go wrong, it sure as hell will. She just assumes it's better to always expect the worst then be caught in shock, defenseless, when the worst comes around. History: From the minute she was strong enough to hold a shovel, she was put to work; there were always fields to be tended to, civilians to feed and little time for anything else. To this day, she can clearly remember her father shouting at her as she faltered from her work, entranced by the sight of Wall Maria in the distance. Linh was taught not to complain—not even to speak a majority of the time—all she knew was farming and working. She grew up, carefully observing her parents and the way they interacted with each other: it was a cold and distant relationship and she herself was no exception to this treatment. Children were not born because people wanted families—children were born because there weren't enough people to tend to the fields and her parents never hesitated to tell her that. No one in the community could read or write, but Linh sought to be the first. She started off by asking people in the markets how signs were read and, over time, she got her hands on a few books. It took her a number of years, but she finally accomplished her goal. Linh lived the same sort of one-track life for years, up until things drastically changed around her pre-teen years. It had been an unusually cold winter and her parents had quickly grown restless. Carelessly, they left the small fireplace aflame to have extra warmth that night; by the next morning, the entire house was up in flames. Linh had been the only one to make it out, though not unscathed. She sat alone on the hillside, watching as the sun rose over the ashes of her home and wondering where to herself she was going to go now. She wandered about one of the nearby cities for a few months until she had finally tasted hunger like never before. She had no where to stay, nothing to eat and, even if she did return to the fields, there would be no improvement. Her last resort was the military. Basic training felt almost no different from the life she had lived on the farmlands; she was already conditioned to long hours of rigorous work, well used to being screamed at and cursed for all she was worth and even more so accustomed to keep it from phasing her in the slightest. She had no real goal for the military—unlike others, she did not aspire to be some great hero of the scouting legion or follow in the path of their parent's foot steps. But, needless to say, she was ever allured by the idea of comfort and security in the military police. Regardless, all her years, she worked as hard as she possibly could without anything holding her back. She could not operate off camaraderie like many of her peers, but her persistence and determination pushed her through to the very end. No one was really concerned with where she was planning to go in her military career for she never made an effort to bond with any of the other trainees. But, in the end, she picked stability, thinking to herself that after working hard her entire life, she deserved a little comfort. That is not to say that Linh let her talents go to waste among the ranks of the military police. She was smart, cunning and did what had to be done to get her agenda across: and therefore she fit right in. However, she did not spend her time lounging around. If she had a job, she got it done and, if she was ever to be called out for some greater duty, she would be ready. She was somewhat grieved to learn about the fall of Wall Maria, and even the loss of her home she had not seen in years. Never in her life had she expected the world to be tossed in such a turbulent state; she'd seen the very core of political unrest and corruption but she couldn't believe that she had almost forgotten what kind of threat walked beyond the walls. However, that didn't stall her in her work. Linh, though comfortable, just wasn't content. All her life she had constantly been working for something and, without anything to work for, her idle hands were useless. All that was left to do was make a name for herself. It was slow and difficult, no one even wanting to give her a second glance, but she eventually found the right people she needed to get acquainted with. Eagerly, she showed them what she was capable of; that she was fit and intelligent and, best of all, good at carrying out orders. In all honesty, that was her big ticket. After some time, Linh eventually found herself in higher ranks than she had expected. Even as a corporal now, all she wants is to keep moving forward in life—survival is what she is best at. Likes: ✓ Complete Silence - It's one thing for someone to like peace and quiet but, over the years, Linh has learned to grow an appreciation for dead silence. She loves the unearthly feeling that comes with being caught up in it and believes it to be a rare skill to be able to conform to it. ✓ The Outdoors - She rarely gets a chance anymore to find herself in the wilderness but she has always and will always feel more at ease in the countryside. Quite often, she finds herself sick of the tightly confined walls and cities inside Wall Sina and, though her home has long since been lost, she craves the opportunity to see it again. ✓ Rain - Linh has always loved a good downpour. She doesn't mind sitting at the window while watching it rain or just ambling about outside even with the threat of getting sick. Standing in the rain brings about a cleansing feeling that she can't help but feel grateful for. Long, stressful days lead her to stand out in the middle of the rain, believing that it's washing all of her troubles away. ✓ Being Alone - Linh has always been standoffish since she was young but it has gotten progressively worse over the years. She does not dislike the company of some, but she much prefers to spend her time alone. ✓ Flora - Linh is a bit embarrassed by her love for flora, seeing as how it greatly contradicts the rest of her personality. Her home is usually full of fresh flowers and Linh always makes time to stop and smell the roses. Dislikes: ✗ Long Conversations - Linh does not object to having a drink with other soldiers or 'acquaintances' but do not expect her to carry on a conversation. She might contribute a few words here and there but it is difficult to completely capture her interests and keep her talking. She's an observer and would much rather observe the people talking than respond. ✗ Sentiment - Linh considers sentiment to be weakness and, if at all possible, she chooses not to let it contribute to her ideas or actions. It exists, deep down within her but she pushes it back until she herself forgets it's even there. She's convinced that if anyone saw her letting her emotions dictate her actions, they would not hesitate to use it against her. ✗ Being Looked Down On - If Linh ever gets the chance to prove someone wrong of their assumptions of her, she will not hesitate to do so. Though she is aware it is not a very respectable trait to have, she quite enjoys stepping all over those who doubt her. ✗ Disrespect - Having being brought up as a very respectable and well-mannered child, Linh has no patience for those who don't practice the same mannerisms. She's not necessarily always friendly in certain interactions but she gives her respect where respect is due and expects the same. ✗ Backing Down - Giving up, unless it's an order, is not an option. If Linh has her mind set on a goal, she will not quit until that goal is achieved or she is dead. In fact, she'd much rather be dead than have to admit defeat. Strengths: ✓ Strategic ✓ Witty ✓ Diligent ✓ Reserved ✓ Patient Weaknesses: ✗ Paranoid ✗ Aggressive ✗ Emotionally Incomprehensible ✗ Stubborn ✗ Morally gray Fears: -Falling in love -Fire Quirks: - She'll tighten her ponytail, a little tighter than healthy, when she is irritated. - Linh actually keeps really frequent and detailed journals. She doesn't always have time to write every day but she tries not to miss more than two days a week. Skillset: Physical Strength: (6/10) Intelligence: (8/10) Teamwork: (2/10) Confidence: (7/10) Agility: (9/10) Roleplay Sample: Things, so far, had been pleasant. Of course they had already had their ups and downs and a ‘turbulent start’ could almost be an understatement, but the two were happy nonetheless. Looking back, Linh couldn’t help but notice that the turbulence was not normally caused by their ever so clashing personalities but from other people over stepping their boundaries. Linh had already grown tired of people telling her to sleep with one eye open or watch her back and that she had no idea what she was getting into. No, she hadn’t just let him walk in and sweep her away like she had all the others—over the years she had indeed grew wise and had finally knew better. Linh was nothing but skeptical at first, perhaps even a bit unwelcoming. She had to test him, after all, just to see if he was really worth her good graces. And yet, no matter how drastic her efforts, he never turned the other cheek. Amazed by his persistence, Linh finally gave in a decided to give the poor boy a chance. And that’s when she started to look at him differently. She observed him, nervously twisting her pony tail around her hands as her face flushed a bright red as she now noticed the way he looked at her in return. She looked him over closely and observed that perhaps he was much more than the persistent boy that showed up at her home one day. She knew that she had a slight lead on him in terms of existence but that no longer clouded her mind. Now she noticed how bright and excited his eyes were and how confident his smile was. She vaguely remembered Francis mentioning him once or twice but it was nothing more than the way an uncle brags on his nephew—Linh was usually more than unimpressed by the things Francis spoke so she had never really paid attention. But this was not the silly little kid Francis talked of; no, in a blink of an eye he was so much more. Linh noticed the exact moment that she swears she fell in love with the stupid man who was determined to win her over and she was terrified. For a while, she had no desire to let him know that his feelings could be returned. All at once, she was afraid of him again—scared of what he might do, scared that he might be just like the others. But he still managed to catch her in his grasp once more. She trusted him for some reason. More so than Yao, more so than Francis. She was ready to rest all of her wellbeing on this one man. And that terrified her more than anything. Had it been any other time, she would’ve spent all her focus on trying to love him the best she could. She couldn’t offer much for she spent most of her time being wary and being afraid. But, he took her hand in his and told her repeatedly that everything would be alright. She was lost for any sort of reasoning: why did he care so much, what did he want? And finally, she just gave in. For the first time, she felt comfortable in the arms of another, even safe perhaps? Linh had always been a capable woman and had single handedly drove away so many forces in her time. And yet, there was something about him that made her feel at ease. That was why she trusted him. With him, life was simple—life was about living. Things were so pleasant in fact, she had—for a while—almost forgotten that, in the end, things just never work out in her favor. The effects of civil war slowly crept up on her and she tried to hide it from him the best she could. She’d turn away with a twitch here, a cringe there; one time she completely lost control of her right arm. But still things came to light, things that he wasn’t too keen on. She sat in front of her mirror, slowly and carefully brushing out her long dark hair while she occasionally stole glances at him sitting on her bed across the room. She found relief in his company though most advised her against it. With a sigh, she wrapped her hands around her comb and set her hands in her lap before turning around to face him. Linh looked at him, a faint smile in her distant expression, and it was easy to see that she was desperate to say something—desperate to clear her mind.
