その日人類は思い出したXXXヤツらに支配されていた恐怖をXXX鳥籠の中に囚われていた屈辱を On that day, mankind received a grim reminder... Kiku Honda Age: 23 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Japanese Rank: Cadet (Military Police) Birthday: February 11th Physical Appearance: Picture Kiku is a small man compared to the other people in the squads. He doesn't stand tall nor does he have much muscles to boast about, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have any special features that others fail to come across so often these days. He has short, pure black hair and dark pupils distinctive to his Asian blood. His skin is neither pale nor have a touch of dark pitched, perfectly in between the two in a yellowish hue. On the outside he may look like a frail man, but he has his share of inner muscles that can be used when necessary. At work, his eyes are usually shown determination behind the dark colors, and his lips are pulled back in a sort of awkward straight line. He tries to do all he can to not take his job as a joke, and hence, tends to refuse to smile for no clear reason to do so. If one happens to meet him on his own private time, however, he usually has the softest and smallest of smiles on his face, relaxed completely. He is often also seen wearing a kimono, not caring what others think of his fashion sense from being different from others. He holds his Asian blood and culture with pride. It is hard to see Kiku truly angry, and even when found so, it may be difficult to know one is actually seeing it unless one knows him well. He hides his anger behind his fake mask of a smile and if only looked closely will one see the murderous fire burning deep in his dark-brown orbs. Because of this, some may assume that Kiku just never gets angry. Only those who are really close to him, such as his family and really close comrades, know Kiku's true self. He can smile easily in presence of them, and the difference between that and the other smile he shows to public is massive. Distinguishing Features: Kiku is no doubt one of the very few Asians left in the walls. He has his slick black hair and dark eyes that give him the characteristics, and doesn't do anything to hide it. His eyes are actually not black; they are deep dark brown that can be assumed as black until the light hits just right, in which it reflects the faint sparks of amber. And though he keeps it hidden, Kiku's back is littered with scars from his childhood. Personality: Kiku is a quiet man who rarely talks about himself. He is caring and gentle to those he finds needs the support, but it is rare to see the other side of him in which he often only shows towards the titans or when his father is around in the scene. His real face is one that some would not expect if they only know him by his mask; in reality, Kiku can be quite terrifying. His rage tends to build up in him, causing immense stress on his body, which in turn can be lashed out towards inanimate objects or the titans. Rarely would he do it to people, seeing he hates letting people see what he thinks is his true self; selfish, weak, and depressing. He hates himself most times because of this, so this only connects to how he doesn’t talk much about himself. What is there to say, really? Kiku however will bond with those who are patient and stick with him through his ups and downs, and are able to pick up on when he is stressed and when he is relaxed, which may take some skill for new people. Once bonded, Kiku enjoys talking, becomes curious about his friend, and enjoys taking walks in quiet areas with his new friend. In other words, he switches from an anti-social mask hidden man to a socially awkward curious man. The change of this can at times take some people back as well, but it takes a lot of effort to pull him out the shell this far to begin with, so possibly that’s the reason those who know him by this side are those who will stick with him no matter what, and the other way around as well. This man is very self conscious about his looks and even if one may mean it as a compliment to comment about his naturally black hair and deep dark eyes, he may still feel it as a stab in the heart. He will not show it, but it may not be rare to see his fist clench ever so slightly, and for him to take an extra long walk the night following the comment to relax himself. He has a complex in a sense and unlike many that may get angry, he bottles his anger and self shame into a bottle and keeps it inside. This may be one reason he may be seen as never ‘angry’. Kiku honestly does not care much about his job. He took it because his father wanted him to, and only continues working because it allows him to stay in wall Sina, again, like his father told him to do so. This however does not mean he doesn’t care for the titans one bit, either. He doesn’t like them, simply because they eat people, but not necessarily because they have done any harm to him, personally so far, yet. Smart in his own ways, Kiku works somewhat like an animal, in which sense he only works hard if it benefits him in a way. And it doesn’t take much to motivate him, honestly. History: This man was born in between two Japanese people, Hidekazu and Chihiro Honda. The two had a child before that sadly passed away before Kiku was even born, so needless to say, when they had a healthy baby boy, they were thrilled and excited. They named him after their home country’s national flower and did not think twice about deciding to raise him purely as a Japanese child. They wanted to make sure that their culture lived on, since it was quickly dying and fading away from society. They started by teaching their child Japanese, figuring that he will learn English as he grows older and starts mixing in with society as a playful, outgoing boy they hoped he would be. It didn’t take long for their hopes for the outgoing boy growing up into such to be crushed, however. Kiku grew up healthy, but at age 5 he rather played with puzzles, drawing, and snuggling to his mother, instead of going out and playing with a ball or stick/sword-fighting with other boys in the neighborhood. Hidekazu was quickly growing annoyed with how much his son preferred the indoors rather than the outdoors, while Chihiro continued trying to encourage him to go outside, but Kiku outright refused to do so. The main reason being he knew he looked different from other children, and felt he would never be accepted among the others. When Kiku was 8 years old, Hidekazu had given up on trying forcing Kiku to be an active boy he hoped for and instead decided to have Kiku help around in the house if he was going to stay inside either way. Kiku had no troubles accepting the helping of housework and gladly washed dishes, mopped the floor, and wiped the table before mealtime. Chihiro was thrilled to have her little helper, but Hidekazu couldn’t help but to think of his son acting like a girl rather than a boy by being the way he was. This only caused further frustration towards his son. As Kiku was nearing age 9, Hidekazu was already thinking of ways he could be proud of his son, when he came across him one day concentrating on a hard puzzle on his free time. An idea coming to his head, Kiku was told that he should study instead of wasting his time on useless puzzles. Though slightly reluctant, he was told often by Chihiro before that in their family, his father’s word was the law, so he obeyed quietly and tossed out his favorite activity at the time. He instead started using his free time on studying for his future. From that time, Hidekazu started telling Kiku that he wanted him to be a Military Police. About the decision, Kiku heard different reasonings that made Hidekazu say so. He said he wanted Kiku to have an easy life, and if Kiku joined the military police, there was a possibility that he might be able to bring his family into Wall Sina as well, where they could have an easy life together. He also claimed that he would be proud of Kiku for having such an honorable job. The reasons of course were centered around the man himself, as he himself wanted to live in the inner wall, which Kiku was able to pick up quickly. But he still worked for the sake of his father’s happiness; if anything, it avoided him from having to see his father’s disappointment or irritation when he studied. Soon it became something that Kiku did just to escape his father’s death glare when he would help around the house, after hearing Hidekazu tell him that housework was a woman’s job, and that Kiku certainly was not a woman. Once he yelled back in defiance, saying he wanted to help his mother since she was always working, but he received a good few lashings of a belt on his back, which made him never dare speak back again. This led to Kiku spending the rest of his childhood studying just as his father wished. He almost never left the house, and in the rare occasions that he did it was to buy more material for his studying. This however does not mean he was able to be smart, however. Once when he finally entered training, he was honestly one of the trainees that barely made it in the top 10 grades, and managed to squeeze himself into the Military Police. The biggest problem he had at the time was actually speaking the English language. He could read it perfectly fine with his years of studying, but didn’t actually speak it until he went into the training, which made him even more nervous and quiet than usual. Today, he still is an indoor person that likes to read and cram himself into his house instead of going out and partying, not having the socialization needed when he was a child. This ends up making him awkward around people with his distinctive culture at times. He managed to squeeze his family into Wall Sina under his name, but refuses to live with his father, which leads him to living on his own in his current position. Likes: - Quiet surroundings: You will not find this man in a party room or disco. He likes his quiet area where at times he can hear only the wind blowing across his yard. He enjoys being able to close his eyes and slip into deep thoughts instead of having to worry about constant noises barging into his ears. - Animals: Kiku loves all animals; especially the cuddly ones. He personally owns a black and white cat named Tama and a small white dog named Pochi. - Peace: As mentioned above, the quiet surroundings could possibly be counted as 'peace', but this means more to the point of there being no fights, wars, or the hate of one person to another being shown outright. Kiku likes to believe that if everybody tries, it is possible to for every person to have some liking of everyone in the walls. Afterall, why waste hate on people when you had enough hate for the titans? - Food: Kiku loves to eat. Can we make it any more simpler? - Reading: Reading books, magazines, or even simple signs allows Kiku a moment to clear his mind and just read the words itself. It soothes him from pent up stress to be able to let his mind wander around the words he reads, often making him aloof. But at times, everyone needs this, right? - Games: Whether it be a gambling game, card game, a simple childish game of pillow fights... Kiku loves them all. It's one way he can clear his mind other than reading and will not hesitate to jump into any kind of idea if told it is a game. This can cause troubles at times, but Kiku finds it difficult to hold back from joining 'games' regardless of the outcome. - Nature: Rather than cities and towns, Kiku would tend to want to spend his time more in the what little nature the inner walls has left and can provide. - His family: As much as he finds them troublesome and at times annoying, Kiku cannot deny the fact that he has love for his family and feels gratitude for them raising him. - Children: Spirits of the innocent young ones make Kiku put that gentle smile of his one his face without a struggle or second thought. He likes to treat them with snacks and will not hesitate to help to cheer up one in distress. - Socializing: Kiku likes to talk and have relationships with people around himself, and tends to easily make friends due to his caring personality for others. He also doesn't like to talk about himself much, making him seem the type to listen to others rather than to babble on about himself. - Technology: There is no doubt that this Asian loves technology. He is always up to date on the newest gears and entertainment, and one of his hobbies is to make small creations himself, such as the traditional Karakuri dolls that is passed down from his ancestors in how to make one. Dislikes: - Loud people: It must be his sensitive ears that causes this dislike... Kiku doesn't like it when he has loud noises around him in general, so when it is coming from a person, he tends to try to get away or avoid the person to begin with. - Beliefs in general: God? If there was such thing, why were they stuck in this situation to begin with? Wouldn't 'God' supposedly help them before it got this bad? Try pushing a belief to this man; he will nod and smile in front of them, but inside he'll be rolling his eyes and be arguing with every statement and claim they make. - Arguments: Kiku cannot stand the fact that people may argue from time to time. It brings back memories of his past that he rather not be reminded of, and so when hearing people argue, Kiku will either try to stop them or walk away from the scene without saying anything, depending on how intense the argument gets. - Ill mannered folks: People who cannot follow common sense tends to annoy Kiku to no end. Don't be tossing garbage in the middle of the streets in front of this man; he may be short, but he will get into your face and lecture you until you clean up after yourself and follow simple manners. - Titans: But then again, who actually really does like these beasts? - Invasion of personal space: Hugging, touching, holding hands, patting his back, and even at times tapping his shoulder may cause him to flinch and easily get stressed. If one wants his attention, it's better to just call out to him and discuss matters in words. No need for body contact of any sorts. - Insects: You want to see Kiku run off and hide? Pull out a live cockroach or bee, and he will run off without turning back even once. - Running: Not one with much stamina, Kiku finds it hard to keep up with other members when running, so tends to just avoid it all together for the sake of his own pride. - Blood: Seeing blood can cause Kiku to become light headed. He will deal with it when necessary, but will certainly be washing his hands like a madman once he's done. Strengths: - Rationality: While some may jump straight to their own feelings and place it into their action, Kiku has the ability to take one step back before starting action. This allows him to not get into troubles that are easily avoidable. - Loyalty: Once you have Kiku's sworn loyalty, you will have it until his heart stops beating permanently. This is one man that you do not have to worry about betrayal or cowardly runaways of. - Determination: When Kiku has a goal, it will be achieved no matter what measures it takes him. - Socialization: Because he easily makes friends, of course this means he easily makes allies. He is also very loyal to all of the friends he makes. - Inventing: Inventing extra bits and pieces for the gear and also generating ideas are just some things Kiku considers himself good at. He is quick to think of ideas when in desperate measures, especially. - Masking emotions: Because he hides his true emotions behind his mask, Kiku can be a great spy or assassinator. He knows how to fool others that are quick to conclusions and will use this for his benefit whenever needed. - Sealed mouth: Your secrets are safe with this man; he has one of the tighter seals on his mouth when it comes to keeping secrets of people. - Concentration: Kiku has a great attention span. He can concentrate hard on one thing for as long as needed, which can be a skill useful in long battles. Weaknesses: - Physical Strength: Because of his lack of muscles compared to some of the other buff men in the squads, Kiku does not have much of physical strength. He mainly cannot seem to gain muscles no matter how much he tries, so he had given up long ago. - His heart: Ever since the stress pushed him to the limits at one point, Kiku's heart is not the stablest of them all. It's nothing that affects his common everyday life, but when pushed to the limits, he could have a higher risk of a heart attack than some other healthy people. - Loyalty: While this is in fact one of his strengths, it is also one of his weaknesses. Because he blindly stays loyal to those who he sees close to himself, he may easily fall into traps and be working on a side that normally would be looked on as wrong or demented. But really, if the boss says so... Why argue? - His family: Kiku has mixed feelings when it comes to his family. He appreciates them, but at the same time cannot stand the sight or thought of them at times. And depending on the situation, this may cause troubles and cause him to become aloof at the worst of times, making it one of his weak points. - Inability to adjust to new ideas This man can have troubles working with problems or things that are not normally on his regular routine. - Uncaring of his own life: At times, Kiku even wonders if he is even worth being in this world to begin with. He feels as though he is only being used for his parents' pleasureable life, and this leads to him not caring if his own life ended anytime, feeling as if he isn't going to be able to enjoy it as much as others can. - Stress: It's very easy to build up in this man. Because its rare he outright speaks his thoughts and with several cultural differences he struggles to understand, Kiku is often seen at the breaking point of stressing out himself. Usually a cup of tea and a walk in a quiet park can help with this, or you can prepare yourself in trying to help the stressed Asian; trust me, it's not fun. - Pressure: Being pretty much showered in it during his entire childhood, one would expect he is used to it by now, but it's actually quite the opposite. Pressure sends Kiku into his submissive, frightened self, which may not be the best status when in danger. Fears: - Solitude: This man has troubles when he is forced into solitude. He can start mumbling words to himself when placed to face this fear, and may be one of the reasons he has pets back at home, to give himself some company in his single living life. - Death of those close to him: Though it might be common sense for everyone to have such fear, Kiku especially feels strongly afraid of this because he only started having close people once he grew older. This caused him to hold those people dear to him in an almost overprotective manner in his heart, and if they were to decease, he may break down and have difficulty getting back to his feet. - Failure: Failure means punishment follows. Having grown in a house that this was practiced every day, Kiku fears failing. Even when simple accidents happen, Kiku might flinch and look around nervously before he can calm himself down. Quirks: - Japanenglish: Kiku speaks in a mix of English and Japanese, and can have troubles pronouncing a few letters of the alphabet when speaking. This can lead to him trying to substitute the word in Japanese or trying to use another word completely, not liking how he could possibly be made fun of by his co-workers for his accent. It's also not rare to see a few Japanese words jump in and out of his sentences that really mean nothing, and Kiku may not even notice himself saying them either. - Culture Shock: Being raised in an distinctive Asian family in solitude, Kiku can at times be shocked at what others may consider common sense, possibly never have heard such thing being done in such way or even been done itself at all. He can have troubles understanding the situation due to this and go into confusion, but curious as he is, he may even end up asking the person straight up in question of what one expects and the reasoning behind such action or culture. - Bowing / Nodding: After being raised in a house where this was done every day, Kiku too picked up on the habit. He may unconsciously duck his head down when he meets an eye of anyone, even passerby's, and mutter a greeting. He believes this is common sense and that it's something everybody should be doing, and most times end up in confusion or frustration when the other person doesn't do the same back. Skillset: (On a Scale of 1 to 10: 10 being the highest) Physical Strength: 4/10 Intelligence: 7/10 Teamwork: 8/10 Confidence: 5/10 Agility: 7/10 Roleplay Sample: The rain wouldn’t stop pouring. Kiku sighed as he gave the window one more glance, then down to his cat that pawed at the glass and meowed sadly. The gentle smile that Kiku often kept on his face came upon his features again, and he turned back to his own activity of reading the newspaper. So much had happened in such a short while, and though it was all out in Wall Maria and Wall Rose, he couldn’t help but to feel slightly interested and wonder what would happen if the same things happened in Wall Sina. There were simple things such as “A sale was done for the food for the commoners in Rose” to tragedies that listed the updated number of casualties in Wall Maria’s ‘accident’. Mentally he attempted to calculate how many people will be coming in towards the inner walls, seeing it was considered the safest of them all, and almost gave himself a headache. The inner wall was going to get even more crowded than it already was. Now, Kiku was no selfish man. He didn’t mind sharing the food supplies to those in need (especially when they did nothing wrong), and didn’t believe that the walls itself made a difference of value in how important each and every life was that was threatened by the titans, but at the same time, he cringed at the thought of how noisy it could get around here with less space for each person. At this moment, even the rain that dropped from the sky was able to reach some areas that were not buried with concrete, letting the natural sound fill the air every now and then and soothe Kiku’s mind. The thought of that too, soon disappearing, made him frown slightly. The same frown deepened into a scowl when he heard Tama meow again. “Tama, damedesuyo(1).” Kiku scolded lightly, watching the cat lower its paw from the glass. “Tonari no ie ni itte, mata okorarete kaettekurunoga me ni mieteiru dewa arimasenka.(2)” It took a bit of staring, but the black and white cat seemed to finally give up and instead sat quietly in front of the window, watching the rain drip down the glass. At that, Kiku sighed softly in silent relief and turned to the next page in the paper, mindlessly scanning through the tiny words written on it. “…Souda,(3)” He suddenly muttered, circling a few words on the paper to let himself remember, and turned his attention back to the sulking cat. “Ame ga yamimashitara, sakana wo tsurini ikimashouka? Mizuga agarunode, toriyasuito omoimasuyo.(4)” The cat stared at him blankly, obviously not understanding a word he was saying. The only reaction he got from his own words was from his dog instead of the cat, who simply was just wagging his tail upon hearing the word “Sakana”, or, ‘fish’, from his master’s mouth, which usually meant some sort of food for him as well. Kiku gave a soft chuckle at this and glanced out the window, noting the raindrops still running down. “Atode ikimashoune.(5)” Translations: 1: Tama, stop doing that. 2: I know you’re just going to go to my neighbor’s house. We already know she doesn’t like cats. 3: Oh yes 4. When it stops raining, let’s go out and try to catch some fish. The water level will rise from this rain, so we might be lucky to catch some. 5. Let’s go later, okay? Additional Information (OOC): Name/Nickname: Puchi Time Zone: UT + 9 (So I ask you be patient with me orz) Contact Info: PM me… If I feel comfortable enough I will give you my Skype. Japanese is my first language, so my English can be a bit limited so I ask for some understanding when posting. I’ve been roleplaying since I was in 5th grade. I can be very girly, with my favorite color being pink and my love for wearing dresses rather than pants. I like drawing (though I suck), reading, writing, babysitting, playing games, anime, singing, chatting, awkwardly enough my job, and shopping. I love my friends and also all 7 of my pets <3 I don't like insects (cockroaches make me literally cry in the corner </3), thunderstorms, broken promises, hospitals, the heat, cleaning, and cooking (Because I can't cook ANYTHING without messing up something </3). I'll admit I am very wary and shy at first, and it takes a lot to make me trust anyone at first, but stick around and we'll be awesome friends ^^ Have you read the rules?
