Corporal Meeting [Lukas + Lars]

Lars cannot recall the last time he stepped foot outside of the Stohess District. Two, Three years ago perhaps ? Even then, the ash blond is sure the purpose was to make face time for rare Corporal meetings, where most of the time the small dinners ended up with grown men in the Scouting Legion bickering with his own stuck-up legion members, and the Garissons idly standing by trying to calm both parties down. In the end, nothing was ever really resolved and Lars wonders exactly why Corporal meetings are a mandatory thing. He has a distant memory of Levi almost assaulting one of his Captains after they insulted Erwin, and that was probably the highlight of the afternoon.
Either way, a mandatory Corporal meeting is in tow, and this year the assigned meeting grounds are the Scouting Legion Headquarters. The Dutchman is absolutely dreading the entire three-day trip, especially the the disgusting topic at hand.
Titan Shifters.
Lars' shoulders immediately tense and his eyebrows knit downward, put off by the subject and almost commanding the coach to turn the carriage around immediately. The ash blond resists the urge to scoff, considering he moved to Sina to avoid anything related to the mindless beasts, he wonders in what universe were Titans supposed to be his problem. His sole priority was protecting an old man, and protecting his family. Yet, he has to meet with the dogs of the Military to talk about their latest science experiments. What a great weekend.
As Lars steps out of the carriage towards the gates of Sina, he is guarded from the nameless men and women who immediately try to rush into Sina. An incredibly common problem, but he merely walks past the people being shoved aside by Military Police Security. Golden eyes immediately fixate themselves on a familiar mop of blond hair and the ever noticeable cowlick at the bottom. He almost resists a scoff, and narrows his eyes a bit.
"They sent you to come get me?"

Typically, when the weekend arrived, people have some reason to celebrate, to perhaps even relax a bit, but the only thing that Lukas had on his mind was, ‘Be over quickly’. In the blonde’s mind, these mandatory Corporal meeting were redundant, a joke, and a pitiful example of attempted organization. Everyone knew what these meetings usually ended up as, a waste of everyone’s time. Still, Lukas was most accepting when Commander Erwin had asked him to lead an escort from Wall Sina’ Gate to the Scouting Legion’s Headquarters so some pampered, lazy Military police don’t get lost on the way. While the twenty-three year old could have taken a carriage, he frankly hated to claustrophobic thing. Besides, they reminded him too much of his childhood, so he had taken the opportunity to ride his horse, Tyr.
He stood effortlessly; flanked by two Cadets Levi had chosen to accompany him, holding his horse’s reigns beneath his chin, idly scratching the beast’s nose, his posture perfectly straight, the idle stance of a respectable Scouting Legion’s Corporal. Around him were throngs of people, milling about in excitement at the presence of the military, in desperation to try and breach through the gate, and some just in observation having obviously nothing better to do. Among the crowds, he could spy the idolizing eyes of young children, enamoured by the romance of military.
Poor kids…. Ignorance is truly bliss.
This meeting’s topic was Titan Shifters, a common topic within the Scouting Legion, but everywhere else it was like a three-headed snake: dangerous, strange, and must be killed without question. For Lukas, he didn’t allow it to phase him too much because, in his eyes anyways, the world was strange with humans and Titans at war, so a combination did not surprise him, because after the horrors he’s seen in his years with the Legion, nothing much did anymore. That is to say he did not visibly flinch or stir in anyway when the Military Police morons arrived in their carriages, like pompous princes, and stepped out.
The slightest of sighs passed Lukas’ lips when he saw the division of the Military was his life entire life for most of it, until he threw that beneath the horse’s hooves and went rogue and joined the Scouting Legion. His father had been furious, though hopefully he had found peace in death, Lukas at least thought that much of the brute of a man. A tall figure approached him, made only taller by his absurd hair, and the man’s voice cut through the noise of them air that was the military Police in a sentence: ignorant, rude, and imbecilic.
"They sent you to come get me?"
In reply, Lukas instantly dropped his horse’s reigns and assumed a perfect salute, in sequence with his Cadets. “Corporal Van Dyke,” he said in greeting, his face as indifferent as always. The other man was by far taller than his 5’8”, making him look up at him to meet his eyes, which he did, and it would seem that some of the crowd seemed to notice the men meeting and turned to watch; the Police dogs holding the country bodies back. Lukas remembered this man, remembered him from training and hearing him talk of the Military Police, of his father, like they were figures that deserved to be idealized. They had graduated together; both making it tot eh top ten of the graduates with Lukas was the top, and really only saw each other now when it came time for these ridiculous meetings.
Not that Lukas was complaining, this guy was a hot-headed idiot.
“Corporal. Will you be traveling by carriage or with us? Though I will mention that horseback would be faster, it is your choice, sir”. The terms of respect came naturally to the man, his blue eyes focus on Lars’ but as to if he actually deserved any ounce of respect, Lukas would never say. Releasing his salute, he grabbed Try’s reigns once more, the horse nudging his side for more scratches, which Lukas obliged without looking away from Lars.

"Corporal Bondevik." Lars replies authoritively, making his way closer to the other Corporal with ease. Once a few feet away from him, he brings his right hand up to his heart and tilting his chin upward, straightening his back to perform a proper salute. "It's been quite some time." He lowers his hand to his side with ease. Lars remembers seeing the younger male at the same training camp the same year he had graduated; he had always been aloof, quiet, reclusive, although Lars would be lying if he said he wasn't the exact same way.
He takes the time to study the Norweigen for what he believes to be subtly. He still wears the exact same indifferent expression, pale blond hair framing his face and the distinguishing cowlick; dressed head to toe in the appropriate uniform with the appropriate crest.
The Wings of Freedom particular to the infamous Recon Corps.
Anybody who thought it was a good idea to have the Corporal of the Military Police and the Corporal of the Scouting Legion in the same vicinity clearly did utilize their gift of proper thought. Still, the Dutchman keeps reassuring himself he will bear with the weekend. Lukas was incredibly pretentious in Lars' opinion, of course, the ash blond did hold the same opinion over most of the members of the Scouting Legion. They were idiots ready to jump into the line of fire with not the slightest plan of action, and in the end they would be surprised when their expeditions only ended in ridiculous death tolls and men returning to their wives with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The Scouting Legion really was full of geniuses.
With the bit of commotion dying down behind him, Lars safely assumes that the citizens waiting to sneak into Sina have been steadied and taken care of. "The gates are closed, sir." His corresponding Cadets join him at his side with confirmation, and Lars merely nods in response before turning his gaze down at Lukas.
"Horseback is fine with me. I brought my own."
He responds idly, allowing his Security and his Cadets to detach his horse, Adria from her reins on the carriage. With golden eyes still focused on Lukas, Lars still holds out one hand to his side, palm flat.
"Well, let's not keep this exciting meeting waiting any longer." The reigns are placed in his waiting hand by one of his Cadets. Without a thank you, he curls his fingers around the rope and walks past Lukas.
"If you would be so kind to lead the way, Corporal. Or I can find the Scouting Legion Headquarters myself."He scoffs a bit beneath his breath, mounting Adria with ease and patting her a few times.

Lukas just blinked in reply to Lars’ greeting, standing perfectly straight and undaunted by the other’s height or presence, and his gaze never faltered even when Lars’ shifted over him. It had been a while; Lukas’ hair had been shorter then. Lukas continued to idly scratch Try’s nose while Lars finally replied to his inquiry, claiming that horseback was ideal, and while internally Lukas was fro wing and truly wanting to smack the man for such snobbery, the shorter man’s composure did not falter as he watched Lars treat his fellow personal with so little respect; the air of a spoiled brat.
"If you would be so kind to lead the way, Corporal. Or I can find the Scouting Legion Headquarters myself."
“Indeed, sir. Though, would it not be a shame if you got lost”. Lukas said smoothly, a statement not a question, while he swiftly and gracefully mounted his horse, followed his cadets, who shared a glance at each other that Lukas caught in his peripheral; as an officer, he couldn’t afford such luxuries as to express his opinion of how much of an asshole and idiot this man was. Finding his seat in his saddle, the crowd had lessoned considerably now that the gates were once again closed, but the bulk, which remained seemed more or less, excited about the men on horseback. Lukas glanced over at a pair of young children, took a moment to allow them to see him looking, but turned when they began to wave, giving the smallest of movements to signal his horse forward. The steed began to prance, excited from the noise of the crowd ad with his cadets taking their places at his sides, the entourage began to walk forward towards the edge of the crowd.
The immense walls of Sina loomed behind them and in the distance, stood her sister, Wall Rose. Before them, lay out the expanse of the interior of Wall Rosa and somewhere within it, was their destination. As soon as Lukas’ horse passed the last onlooker, Lukas kicked his horse into an easy canter, his cadets following his example with ease. He did not look at Lars or the rest of the Military Police, he expected them to follow like the children they were, and he was not a man for idle ride conversation. The day was beautiful and bright and if Lukas hadn't been dogged by dogs, he probably would have enjoyed the ride. Unfortunately, his company was poor and the next few days were going to be a waste of time so he was not in a happy mood. As he rode, he sighed, finally closing his eyes to reveal his exasperation with his situation.

The bright eyes of children, hiding behind the curtains of their small windows and some even sitting outside of their porch, suddenly meet with the Dutchman's golden orbs. He raises a curious eyebrow at the blissful ignorance of how hopeful children can be. Extending their small hands and waving chubby fingers as if reaching out at some form of divinity. Did they really think the army, much less, the Scouting Legion was worth it ? Their missions were very sugar coated and told as heroic stories to these children, when in reality it all ended with blood and sacrifice and death. All the Military Police embodied was corruption, sex, dishonesty, and immorality.
But hey, who was Lars to destroy the hopeful dreams of a ten-year old.
"With the way this meeting is going to go getting lost is beginning to sound more like a blessing." The Dutchman replies rather indifferently, although there is truth behind all of his words. Despite his bluntness and how rude it may sound, Lars knows Lukas' feels the same way; the Norweign is just a bit too respectful to say it out loud. So Lars figures he'll do it for the both of them.
He receives no response from the other male, watching his horse prance toward the Scouting Legion Headquarters. In tow, he lightly kicks his heel into Adrias' thigh and with a small neigh, she begins to gallop behind the legion as well. The corners of Lars' lips turn upward in a small smile of amusement. He remembers Lukas, a man of same age and much smaller height. His most distinguishing feature was always how disinterested and unwavering he appeared to be. Yet his combat skills and advanced knowledge surpassed many people. A bit effortless, he might add.
It did not make Lars like the other male any better.
The Dutchman follows suit with ease, and the trip is much shorter than he feels it should be. It is absolutely dreadful that they already reached their destination. "As wonderful as I remember..." He says sarcastically, pulling up a few feet behind the Corporal; casually surveying the castle where the Scouting Legion eats, rests, plots, and so on.
"After you, Corporal Bondevik."
