Several hundred years ago, humanity was nearly driven to the brink of extinction by Titans; Giant humanoid creatures that devour human beings on site, seemingly more for pleasure rather than sustenance. They have hard skin and regenerative abilities, and can only be killed by a deep incision at the base of the neck. Despite the grave situation, a small percentage of humanity survived by caging themselves in a city protected by Wall Maria, Wall Rose, and Wall Sina.
Flash forward to year 844. The illusion of peace is suddenly shattered the day the Colossal Titan appears out of nowhere and breaches Wall Maria. Titans quickly begin to flood the city, and the horrific events that follow suit were nothing anyone was ever prepared for. Once more, humanity has found themselves hopelessly overpowered by the Titans, suffering horrific casualties and enormous losses. Although their population is quickly depleting into terrifying numbers, humanity has officially waged war against the Titans to preserve what remains of the human race.
Three Legions were formed in order to oversee the protection of the three walls as well as the citizens that reside in them. The Scouting Legion, which delegates any expeditions outside the walls and direct confrontation with the Titans. The Garrison, a somewhat lax division that mostly deal with patrols and inner city crime, and lastly The Military Police; an elite squad whose sole purpose is to ensure the safety and protection of the king.
As of current, a portion of Wall Rose has been destroyed by the Colossal Titan, where the horrific events of Maria replay themselves before everyones' very eyes. Titan shifters are now revealed to a select group of people, whether or not they are considered a threat or saviors to humanity is still an ambiguous subject.
There is little to no information regarding the origins of the titans; Where they came from and why they behave the way they do remains a mystery. Despite this, brave soldiers continue to offer up their hearts to save humanity from this race of monsters.
